New Light-Measuring tech could make cancer therapy safer and more precise

NCT ID NCT03678350

First seen Apr 02, 2026 · Last updated May 06, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This early-phase study tested a system that measures how much laser light reaches tumors during photodynamic therapy (PDT) in people with mesothelioma, non-small cell lung cancer, or other cancers that spread to the lining of the lungs. Nine participants received a light-activated drug called porfimer sodium during surgery, and the light dosimetry system helped doctors track the light dose in real time. The main goal was to check safety and side effects, while also exploring whether better light measurement could improve treatment outcomes.
