New hope to cut opioid dependence for sickle cell patients in agony

Summary
This study aims to see if adding the numbing medication lidocaine to standard pain care can help adults with sickle cell disease use fewer opioid painkillers during severe pain crises. It will involve 104 adults admitted to the intensive care unit for these crises. The main goal is to measure if the total amount of opioids needed is lower when lidocaine is added to their treatment.
