Enzyme clue may unlock new lewy body dementia treatments

NCT ID NCT05304195

First seen Nov 20, 2025 · Last updated May 05, 2026 · Updated 20 times

Summary

This study is checking whether people with Lewy body dementia have lower activity of a key brain enzyme called glucocerebrosidase. Researchers will compare enzyme levels in 236 participants (patients and healthy volunteers) to see if a drop in activity is linked to the disease. If so, existing treatments for Gaucher disease might be tested for dementia in the future.
