Common drug could halt Diabetes-Related blindness

NCT ID NCT03161652

Summary

This study is testing whether levosulpiride, a medication that increases prolactin hormone levels, can improve vision and reduce retinal damage in people with diabetic retinopathy and macular edema. Researchers will compare the drug against a placebo in 120 participants aged 40-69 to see if it safely improves visual acuity and reduces retinal swelling. The goal is to find a new oral treatment option that might work alongside or instead of current eye injections and laser therapies.
