Could a common fertility drug improve miscarriage care?

NCT ID NCT07160855

First seen Jun 26, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether taking letrozole before misoprostol helps women with missed miscarriage pass pregnancy tissue more completely than misoprostol alone. Ninety-two women in early pregnancy (up to 13 weeks) will be randomly assigned to receive either letrozole or a placebo for three days, followed by misoprostol. The main goal is to see if the combination leads to a complete abortion within 24 hours without needing surgery.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
letrozole and misoprostol
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a more effective medication option for managing missed miscarriage, reducing the need for surgical procedures.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 92 participants. Adding letrozole may not improve outcomes and could cause additional side effects.
