First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study tested a less invasive method (LISA) to give surfactant—a lung medication—to extremely premature babies (22-25 weeks) in the delivery room. The goal was to see if it could lower the number of babies needing a breathing tube in the first 72 hours compared to the standard approach. Sixty babies were enrolled, and the study tracked breathing support needs and complications like lung or brain injury.
