New Ultrasound-Guided test could revolutionize leprosy diagnosis

NCT ID NCT07515989

First seen Apr 23, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study is testing whether a new method—using ultrasound to guide a small needle sample from near the nerve—can find leprosy bacteria more accurately than current tests. About 108 people with suspected leprosy will be followed for one year to see if this approach helps diagnose the disease earlier and confirm when treatment is successful. The goal is to reduce nerve damage and disability from leprosy.
