Heart bypass study tests best way to close leg wounds

NCT ID NCT07355452

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study compares two methods of closing the leg incision after taking a vein for heart bypass surgery: a single-layer stitch versus a multi-layer stitch. Researchers will track 200 patients for one week to see which method leads to fewer wound infections, hematomas, or other complications. The goal is to find the safest and most effective closure technique.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If one closure method proves better, it could reduce wound complications and hospital stays for heart bypass patients.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study (200 patients) comparing surgical techniques, not testing a new drug or cure. Results may not apply to all patients or settings.
