First seen May 09, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study tested a new way to create a temporary stoma (an opening in the belly for waste) after rectal cancer surgery. The goal was to see if it could lower the risk of dehydration and kidney injury compared to the usual method. About 16 adults with rectal cancer took part, but the study was stopped early. Researchers tracked bowel function and quality of life for one year after surgery.
