New hope for kids with rare cancer: simpler drug may work better than standard care

Summary
This study tests whether a single chemotherapy drug, cytarabine, works better than the usual two-drug combination (vinblastine/prednisone) for treating Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH), a rare cancer that causes tissue damage. About 124 children and young adults up to age 21 will be randomly assigned to one of the two treatments. The study also uses PET scans to better see where LCH is in the body and looks for genetic markers that might predict how well someone responds to therapy.
