Laser zaps nose nerves to stop sniffles in new trial
NCT ID NCT07050992
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a laser procedure that targets nerves in the nose to relieve chronic rhinitis symptoms like runny nose, sneezing, and stuffiness. 120 adults who haven't gotten relief from standard medications will receive either the laser treatment or a sham procedure. Researchers will track symptom scores and side effects for three months after the single in-office treatment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
laser posterior nasal nerve neurolysis (a procedure using laser energy to ablate nerves in the nose)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a long-lasting, in-office procedure to reduce chronic rhinitis symptoms like runny nose and congestion without daily medication.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with no phase designation. The sham surgery control may reveal a strong placebo effect, and the procedure carries risks like bleeding or scarring.
