Laser and peroxide combo shows promise for implant gum disease

NCT ID NCT07287956

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tested whether a special light-activated treatment, called oxygen high-level laser therapy, could improve gum health around dental implants. Sixteen adults with gum infections around their implants received either laser therapy with hydrogen peroxide or laser alone after standard cleaning. Researchers measured gum pocket depth, bleeding, and bacteria levels to see which treatment worked better.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
oxygen high-level laser therapy (diode laser and hydrogen peroxide)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a better way to treat gum infections around dental implants without surgery.
What could go wrong
This was a very small study with only 16 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The treatment is still experimental and not yet proven better than standard care.
