Laser duo aims to make surgical scars less noticeable

NCT ID NCT03057964

First seen Jul 01, 2026 · Last updated Jul 02, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether combining two types of laser treatments—pulsed dye laser (PDL) and fractional photothermolysis—can improve how surgical scars look. Adults who had a dermatologic surgery on their trunk or limbs can join. Some participants receive the laser combination at several visits, while others receive no laser treatment. Researchers will compare scar appearance using a standard rating scale.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Pulsed Dye Laser and Fractional Photothermolysis Laser
What this could lead to
If effective, this combination laser approach could offer a simple way to reduce the appearance of postsurgical scars without additional surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study, so results may not apply to everyone. Lasers can cause temporary redness, swelling, or discomfort, and the treatment may not improve scars for all participants.
