Voice box transplants offer new hope for those who lost their voice
NCT ID NCT03269396
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Apr 09, 2026 · Updated 21 times
Summary
This study aims to test the safety and effectiveness of transplanting a donor voice box (larynx) into patients with severe, permanent throat damage who have no other good treatment options. It will follow 10 patients to see if the transplant survives, and to measure improvements in their voice, swallowing, and breathing. Because it is a transplant, patients will need to take lifelong anti-rejection medications to prevent their body from attacking the new organ.
