Voice box transplants offer hope to those who lost their voice

NCT ID NCT03269396

Summary

This study is testing whether transplanting a donor voice box (larynx) is a safe and effective way to help people with severe, untreatable damage to their own. It will involve 10 adults who have lost normal voice, swallowing, or breathing function, often due to cancer treatment or injury. Doctors will track if the transplanted organ survives, and if patients can swallow safely, breathe without a tube, and speak again.
