Spleen surgery may protect kidneys in liver patients, new study hopes to find out

Summary

This study follows 30 adults with liver cirrhosis, an enlarged spleen, and hypersplenism who are scheduled for laparoscopic splenectomy (spleen removal surgery). Researchers will measure kidney function before surgery and for 2 years after to see if the surgery helps or harms the kidneys. The goal is to understand the long-term effects and improve care for these patients.
