New combo therapy could beat deadly fungus in HIV patients

NCT ID NCT06525389

First seen Jan 09, 2026 · Last updated Jun 14, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study tests two ways to treat talaromycosis, a serious fungal infection in people with HIV. It compares a single high dose of a newer antifungal drug (liposomal amphotericin B) against two weeks of the standard drug, and also checks if adding another drug (flucytosine) helps. The goal is to find a more effective treatment that reduces death and complications, while also testing a smarter way to stop preventive therapy without the infection coming back.
