Could 'Good' bacteria on your skin tame psoriasis? new trial aims to find out
NCT ID NCT07194200
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether applying a solution of Lactobacillus plantarum, a beneficial bacteria from healthy skin, to psoriasis patches can improve the condition. 184 adults with mild-to-moderate psoriasis will apply the bacteria or an inactive version daily for two months. The goal is to see if restoring skin microbes can reduce symptoms like scaling and inflammation.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Lactobacillus plantarum (a beneficial bacteria) applied to the skin
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a new, natural way to manage psoriasis by restoring healthy skin bacteria, potentially reducing symptoms without strong drugs.
What could go wrong
This is an early Phase 2 trial with only 184 people, so results may not apply to everyone. The treatment is applied topically and may not work for severe cases. Risks include skin irritation or no improvement.
