Knee surgery showdown: resurfaced vs. natural kneecap – which wins?
NCT ID NCT03081260
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 27 times
Summary
This study looked at two ways to do knee replacement surgery: one where the kneecap is resurfaced with a plastic implant, and one where it's left natural. Researchers followed 250 patients for 12 months after surgery to see which method led to better knee function and fewer problems. The goal was to find out if newer knee implants that are designed to work with the natural kneecap are better than resurfacing it.
