Which knee implant holds up better? study pits fixed vs. mobile designs
NCT ID NCT07677722
First seen Jul 01, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026
Summary
This study compares two types of partial knee replacements for people with arthritis on the inner side of the knee. One implant has a fixed bearing (the plastic piece stays still), while the other has a mobile bearing (the plastic piece can move slightly). Researchers will track pain, function, surgery time, and complications in 200 adults aged 50 to 80 to see if one design leads to better outcomes.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
unicompartmental knee prosthesis (fixed bearing vs mobile bearing)
What this could lead to
If one design proves clearly better, it could guide surgeons toward the implant that offers better pain relief, function, and fewer complications for people with medial knee arthritis.
What could go wrong
This is a single-center study with 200 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. Differences between the two designs might be small, and long-term outcomes are not yet known.
