Common drug tested to shield kidneys from harsh chemo side effect

NCT ID NCT05640817

Summary

This study tested whether a drug called pentoxifylline could protect the kidneys of head and neck cancer patients receiving cisplatin chemotherapy. Cisplatin is very effective but can cause serious kidney damage. Researchers enrolled 90 patients to see if adding pentoxifylline could reduce this specific side effect and allow patients to better tolerate their cancer treatment.
