Can a common pill shield ICU survivors from future heart attacks?

NCT ID NCT05272878

Summary

This study is testing whether a blood pressure medication (an ARB called irbesartan) can help prevent future heart problems in people who survived a stay in the intensive care unit (ICU) and had acute kidney injury. About 508 participants will be randomly assigned to take either the real medication or a placebo pill for one year to see if it reduces their risk of heart failure, stroke, or heart attacks. The goal is to see if this treatment can improve long-term health for this high-risk group.
