Drug shrinks tumors to enable Life-Saving kidney surgery

NCT ID NCT03438708

Summary

This study is testing if taking the drug axitinib before surgery can shrink complex kidney tumors, making a kidney-sparing operation possible for patients who otherwise couldn't have it. The goal is to see if this approach is safe and helps surgeons successfully remove tumors while preserving more kidney function. The trial is enrolling 22 patients with a specific type of kidney cancer who need a partial kidney removal but currently face high surgical risks.
