Common painkiller injected into leg during surgery may extend relief
NCT ID NCT05543785
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether injecting the painkiller ketorolac into a leg during surgery can reduce pain after the operation. 76 adults having lower leg surgery with a tourniquet will receive either ketorolac or a saltwater solution. The main goal is to see how long pain relief lasts after the spinal anesthesia wears off.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Ketorolac (a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, also known as Toradol)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could provide a simple, safe way to extend pain relief after leg surgery without strong opioids.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study (76 people) testing a well-known drug in a new way. Results may not apply to all patients or surgeries, and ketorolac can cause side effects like bleeding or stomach irritation.
