New hope for sickle cell pain? ketamine study launches for kids

NCT ID NCT07369024

Summary

This study is testing if adding a low dose of the drug ketamine to standard opioid pain medicine works better for children and young adults with sickle cell disease during a severe pain crisis. Researchers will compare pain levels, opioid use, and hospital stays between two groups: one getting the standard treatment plus ketamine, and one getting the standard treatment alone. The goal is to find a safer, more effective way to manage these painful episodes.
