Anesthesia twist aims to ease common surgery side effect

NCT ID NCT07429916

Summary

This study is testing if adding a low dose of the anesthetic drug ketamine during surgery can help reduce shoulder pain, a common side effect after laparoscopic gastric sleeve surgery. Researchers will compare pain levels in about 50 patients who receive ketamine as part of their anesthesia to those who receive standard anesthesia. The goal is to see if this approach makes recovery more comfortable for patients undergoing this weight loss procedure.
