New study tests if combining laser eye surgery with corneal strengthening boosts vision in keratoconus patients
NCT ID NCT07372911
First seen Jan 28, 2026 · Last updated May 18, 2026 · Updated 17 times
Summary
This study compares two procedures for people with keratoconus, a condition that thins and bulges the cornea, causing blurry vision. One group gets a laser vision correction (PRK) plus corneal cross-linking (CXL) to both improve vision and stop the disease from getting worse. The other group gets CXL alone with a different method to remove the cornea's surface layer. The goal is to see which approach gives better eyesight one year after treatment. The study enrolls 50 adults aged 18-40 with mild to moderate keratoconus.
