New antibody therapy targets rare blood cancers in first human trial
NCT ID NCT06150157
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This early-stage study tests a new drug called JNJ-88549968, a bispecific antibody designed to direct the body's immune T cells to attack cancer cells with a specific CALR mutation. The trial will enroll about 220 adults with essential thrombocythemia or myelofibrosis who carry this mutation. The main goals are to check the drug's safety, find the best dose, and see how the body processes it.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
JNJ-88549968 (a bispecific antibody that redirects T cells to attack cancer cells), sometimes given with ruxolitinib or momelotinib
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a new targeted treatment option for people with certain rare blood cancers that have not responded to standard therapies.
What could go wrong
This is a very early Phase 1 trial focused on safety and dosing, so it is unknown if the drug will work. Side effects like cytokine release syndrome and other immune reactions are possible risks.
