New combo treatment could help more Large-Stroke patients walk again
NCT ID NCT07603440
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether giving a clot-busting drug called tenecteplase before a mechanical clot removal procedure helps people with large ischemic strokes recover better than the procedure alone. About 486 adults with large-vessel occlusion strokes will be randomly assigned to one of two groups. The main goal is to see if more patients can walk independently three months after treatment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Tenecteplase (a clot-busting drug given as a single injection)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could show that adding tenecteplase before clot removal helps more people with large strokes recover enough to walk independently.
- What could go wrong
- This is a phase 3 trial, but it's still early and the benefit of tenecteplase in large-core strokes is unproven. There is a risk of bleeding in the brain, though tenecteplase may be safer than older drugs.
