Could a new drug help fight a rare thymus cancer?
NCT ID NCT06980077
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This phase II trial is testing a drug called ivonescimab in 25 people with thymic carcinoma, a rare cancer of the thymus gland that has already been treated. Ivonescimab is an immunotherapy that helps the body's immune system recognize and attack cancer cells. The main goal is to see if the drug can shrink tumors, and researchers will also track how long any response lasts and overall survival.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
ivonescimab (a type of immunotherapy that helps the immune system attack cancer cells)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a new treatment option for people with thymic carcinoma that has not responded to prior therapies.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 25 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The drug may not shrink tumors or could cause side effects like immune-related inflammation.
