Ultrasound vs. blood test: which detects trauma bleeding faster?
NCT ID NCT07255456
First seen Dec 10, 2025 · Last updated May 05, 2026 · Updated 17 times
Summary
This study looks at 126 adults with severe injuries from accidents or violence. Researchers want to see if a simple ultrasound measurement of a major vein (the inferior vena cava) can reliably show low blood volume, compared to a standard blood test for lactate. If the two measures match well, doctors could use the bedside ultrasound to quickly guide emergency treatment, especially when lab results are delayed.
