New pill could reduce need for steroids in painful muscle condition

NCT ID NCT07266168

Summary

This study is testing whether an oral medication called ivarmacitinib can help control polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) while reducing the need for steroid medications. The trial will involve 80 adults aged 50-75 with active PMR who will receive either the study drug or a placebo for 12 weeks, followed by longer-term treatment. Researchers want to see if this medication can effectively manage inflammation and pain while allowing patients to use fewer steroids, which often cause significant side effects.
