New drug test aims to make surgery safer for diabetes patients

NCT ID NCT07254715

Summary

This study is testing if a medication called Itopride can help empty the stomach faster in diabetic patients who take semaglutide and are having surgery. Semaglutide can slow stomach emptying, which increases the risk of complications during anesthesia. Researchers will use ultrasound to measure stomach contents in 60 patients after fasting to see if Itopride makes surgery safer.
