Stitch showdown: which way to sew a uterine scar works best?

NCT ID NCT07625852

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compares two ways of stitching the uterine wall after laparoscopic isthmocele repair: vertical closure (along the uterus) vs. transverse closure (across it). The goal is to see which method leads to a thicker, stronger scar and better symptom relief. The trial will enroll 72 women with symptomatic isthmocele and follow them for 12 months.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

surgical closure technique (vertical or transverse suturing)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could identify the better surgical method for repairing isthmocele, potentially reducing symptom recurrence and improving fertility outcomes.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 72 participants, so results may not apply widely. Both techniques are already used, so no major breakthrough is expected.
