Iron scaffold that melts away could change heart disease treatment

NCT ID NCT05206084

First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study tests a new device called an iron bioresorbable scaffold, which is placed in a blocked heart artery to keep it open and then slowly dissolves over time. It releases a drug to prevent re-blockage. The trial compares it to a standard permanent stent in about 518 adults with coronary artery disease. The goal is to see if the dissolving scaffold works as well or better than the standard option.
