Dialysis for iron? new device offers hope for patients who Can't take standard pills

NCT ID NCT06781099

Summary

This study is testing a medical device called MEX-CD1 that works like dialysis to filter excess iron from the blood. It is for patients with myelodysplastic syndrome or myelofibrosis who need regular blood transfusions, which cause dangerous iron buildup, but who cannot tolerate the standard oral or injectable medications to reduce iron. The main goals are to see if the device is safe, feasible to use, and effective at lowering iron levels, while also checking if it reduces the need for transfusions and improves quality of life.
