Hidden iron problem? study probes link between obesity, organ health, and Weight-Loss surgery

NCT ID NCT07157332

Summary

This study aims to understand how obesity and low iron levels affect iron buildup in organs like the liver and heart, and stress in fat cells. Researchers will compare 50 adults with obesity, some with and some without iron deficiency, using MRI scans and fat tissue samples before they have weight-loss surgery. They will then follow the same people for six months after surgery to see if weight loss helps normalize iron in organs, reduces body-wide stress, and improves health measures like blood sugar control.
