Iron pills may weaken immune defenses in rare disease, study investigates

NCT ID NCT07111598

Summary

This study aims to understand how iron deficiency and the iron supplements used to treat it affect the immune system in people with Hereditary Haemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT), a rare genetic disorder. Researchers will compare immune cell levels in three groups of adult HHT patients: those with normal iron levels, those taking iron supplements, and those with low iron not yet on supplements. The goal is to learn if low iron or the iron treatment itself is linked to lower immune cell counts seen in this condition.
