Real-time tissue check during rectal cancer surgery may lower recurrence risk
NCT ID NCT07398716
First seen Feb 12, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 19 times
Summary
This study tested whether checking the removed tissue during surgery (frozen section) helps ensure all cancer is removed in people with mid or low rectal cancer who had radiation therapy before surgery. About 99 participants were split into two groups: one had the extra tissue check, the other had standard surgery. The goal was to see if this approach reduces the chance of leftover cancer and lowers the risk of the cancer coming back.
