Camera probe spots hidden pancreatic lesions during surgery
NCT ID NCT03729453
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jul 24, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a tiny camera called SpyGlass that doctors insert into the pancreatic duct during surgery for a condition called IPMN (a type of cyst that can turn into cancer). The goal is to see if the camera can find small, hidden tumors that standard scans miss. About 100 patients scheduled for pancreatic surgery will take part. The results will help design a larger, more definitive trial.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- SpyGlass catheter (a tiny camera inserted into the pancreatic duct during surgery)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could help surgeons detect hidden tumors during IPMN surgery, potentially reducing the need for repeat operations.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study (100 participants) focused on gathering data, not proving a treatment works. The device may not find all lesions, and there are risks from the procedure itself.
