Could donor stem cells free transplant patients from lifelong drugs?

NCT ID NCT04804891

First seen Apr 03, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This early-phase study tests whether giving intestinal transplant patients stem cells from their organ donor can safely reduce the need for strong immunosuppressive drugs. These drugs prevent rejection but raise risks of infection and cancer. The goal is to achieve a state where donor and recipient cells coexist, allowing lower medication doses. Only 6 participants are being enrolled to check safety first.
