New blood treatment aims to block zika during transfusions

Summary
This study tests whether treating red blood cells with the INTERCEPT Blood System can safely reduce the risk of Zika virus transmission during transfusions. About 692 patients who need blood transfusions will receive either treated or standard red blood cells. The main goals are to see if the treated blood works as well and is as safe as regular blood.
