Can lowering blood pressure aggressively after stroke save lives?

NCT ID NCT07350564

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether bringing blood pressure down very quickly (below 120 mmHg) after a stroke clot removal procedure improves recovery. About 910 stroke patients will be randomly assigned to either intensive or standard blood pressure management. The goal is to see if this approach reduces disability and death over three months.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Intensive blood pressure management (target systolic BP <120 mmHg)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could establish a new standard for blood pressure control after stroke clot removal, potentially reducing disability and death.

What could go wrong

This is a Phase NA trial, and intensive blood pressure lowering may increase the risk of bleeding or other complications. The results may not apply to all stroke patients.
