Scientists test bug cookies to boost senior health
NCT ID NCT07456319
Summary
This small pilot study tested whether adding protein from edible insects (mealworms) to cookies, combined with a supervised exercise program, could improve heart health in older adults. For 28 days, 30 participants aged 60+ ate either insect-based or regular cookies after exercise sessions. Researchers measured changes in cholesterol, body composition, blood pressure, and strength to see if this sustainable protein source offered health benefits.
