New hope for tiniest lungs: safer steroid tested on premature babies

NCT ID NCT06589245

Summary

This study is testing the safety of an inhaled steroid called ciclesonide in very premature babies who are at high risk for developing a serious lung condition called bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD). The researchers want to see if this medicine, which is already used for asthma in older children, is absorbed into the body and causes fewer side effects than other steroids used for preemies. They will enroll 30 babies to carefully monitor for problems like high blood sugar, poor growth, and high blood pressure.
