Breathe in protection: inhaled COVID vaccine trial launches

NCT ID NCT06381739

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests a new COVID-19 vaccine that you breathe in as a mist, instead of getting a shot. It aims to see if it is safe and creates a strong immune response in the lungs and blood. About 350 healthy adults who have already had three mRNA COVID vaccines will receive either the experimental vaccine or a placebo. Researchers will monitor them for 24 weeks to track side effects and immune reactions.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
ChAd-triCoV/Mac (a viral-vector vaccine)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a needle-free COVID-19 vaccine that boosts lung immunity and may offer better protection against infection.
What could go wrong
This is a phase 2 trial with only 350 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The vaccine is still experimental, and side effects or limited effectiveness are possible.
