Sweet potato vs. pear: the baby gut battle begins

NCT ID NCT03229863

Summary

This study is observing how a baby's gut bacteria change when they first eat solid foods, and how those changes might relate to their development. Researchers are comparing two common first foods—sweet potato and pear—to see how their different carbohydrate types affect the growth of 'good' bacteria. The study involves about 100 healthy, exclusively breastfed infants and their mothers, tracking changes in gut health, diet, and development over the first year.
