New bedside tool aims to improve anesthesia talks for hip fracture patients

Summary

This study tests a simple one-page conversation guide that doctors can use at the bedside to help patients aged 50 and older understand their anesthesia options before hip fracture surgery. The goal is to see if this tool improves shared decision-making between doctors and patients. About 1,881 participants across 6 U.S. hospitals will take part.
