NCT ID NCT02606149
First seen Nov 20, 2025 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 15 times
Summary
This study looked at whether explaining the life-threatening risks of chemotherapy at diagnosis helps patients with incurable stage IV lung cancer avoid aggressive treatment at the end of life. 123 patients were randomly assigned to receive either standard information or a more honest explanation about how chemo can worsen conditions like weight loss and blood clots. The goal was to see if this truthful approach reduced the number of patients receiving chemotherapy in their last 30 days, while possibly improving survival and quality of care.
