ICU blood test may reveal hidden alcohol risks

NCT ID NCT07632716

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looks at whether a blood test for a marker of heavy drinking (carbohydrate-deficient transferrin, or CDT) can help predict how well critically ill patients will do in the intensive care unit. Researchers will follow 800 adults admitted to the ICU through the emergency department, tracking their recovery and any complications. The goal is to see if higher CDT levels are linked to a higher risk of death or other serious issues, which could help doctors tailor care for these patients.
